International Students

 

The procedures for reflecting that your name or nationality has changed differ depending on whether you are in the UK or overseas. You must ensure that you follow the relevant instructions for your situation as outlined below.

I'm outside the UK and have changed my name / nationality

You need to apply for a Vignette Transfer from overseas. You do this by using the online form. You must register an account and when asked to “select visa type” choose:

Reason for visit: other

Visa type: others

Visa Sub Type: Vignette Transfer

The form will confirm that this visa is to request the transfer of a valid UK visa / entry clearance into a new passport. The fee for this is £154.

Visa Application Centres offer a variety of services at an additional cost which may mean your application can be processed more quickly. You can check the availability of such services at the Visa Application Centre where you intend on applying.

You should inform Student Registry and your College of your name / nationality change so this can be updated on your record.

If your nationality requires you to register with the police, then once you have returned to the UK, you must inform the police of the the change in your name / nationality. You should do this within 7 days of your return to the UK. You should visit the Parkside Police Station but you do not need to make an appointment. Take your passport, Certificate of Registration and your BRP to the Police Station.

 

I'm inside the UK and have changed my name / nationality

You must apply for a new BRP and are required to do this within 3 months by making an application online

The fee for is £161. 

As part of the application process, you will book an appointment to enrol your biometrics. The appointment can be booked at either a Core Service Point or an Enhanced Service Point: 

  • An appointment to have your passport scanned and enrol your biometrics at a Core Service Points is free of charge. The nearest Core Service Point is in Croydon, London. 
  • There is an Enhanced Service Point in Cambridge Central Library in the Grand Arcade. There is an additional £60 charge to book an appointment. Appointments available outside of core hours may be available at an increased charge. 

    You should inform Student Registry and your College of your change in name / nationality change so this can be updated on your record.

    If your nationality requires you to register with the police, then once you have returned to the UK, you must inform the police of the fact that you have changed your name / nationality. You should visit the Parkside Police Station but you do not need to make an appointment. Take your passport, Certificate of Registration and your BRP to the Police Station.

I have renewed my passport

You must notify UKVI of this via a Change in Circumstances form and you are required to do this within 3 months. Page 3 of the form contains guidance on what to do if you have received a new passport.

You must take your new passport to your College Tutorial Office so a scan can be obtained and uploaded to your student record.

If your nationality requires you to register with the police you must inform the police of the fact that you have received a new passport. You should do this within 7 days of receiving the new passport. You should visit the Parkside Police Station but you do not need to make an appointment. Take your passport, Certificate of Registration and your BRP to the Police Station.
